Odenton is a census-designated place in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. The population was 20,534 at the 2000 census. The town is named after former Governor of Maryland, Oden Bowie. It is bordered by Gambrills to the east, Severn to the north, Fort Meade to the west, and Crofton to the south. It is located at the intersection of Maryland routes 170 and 175 and is parallel to Route 32. In recent years the Odenton area has become the fastest growing area in the county. This is because of its location near Fort George G. Meade, NSA Headquarters, and its proximity to Baltimore, Washington, D.C., and Annapolis. The development has been fueled by the construction of the massive Piney Orchard development as well as the soon to be under-construction Odenton Town Center.

What Makes Odenton Unique?

  • MONEY Magazine -  Best places to live 2007.
  • The history of Odenton as a railroad town dates back to 1840 when the Annapolis & Elkridge Railroad was built across this sparsely populated area of Anne Arundel County. Then, when the Baltimore and Potomac Railroad was constructed in 1868 to connect Baltimore and Washington, a train station was built in Anne Arundel County and named in honor of Oden Bowie - a former governor of Maryland and the railroad's president. A telegraph office, church, school, post office and two stores followed and tomato canning became the first industry in the area, several decades before the Federal Government acquired land to build Fort George G. Meade nearby. From a population of about 100 people in those early days, Odenton has grown to well over 20,000 residents today - and most of those who aren't employed at neighboring Fort Meade or NSA are commuters.
  • Wheels Skating Center - opened in 1999, offers the 'largest and best' in a maple wood skate floor and family entertainment! Our brightly-lit Americana red/white/blue theme is complemented by the powerful sound system and club style light show. The skate floor is 90' x 190' plastic coated maple wood - one of the smoothest and largest skate floors on the east coast!
