Severn is a census-designated place in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. The town originally was zoned rural resident and commercial. Most of the farms in Severn have recently been rezoned residential.[citation needed] There are no major retail sales outlets in Severn. Shopping is done in nearby larger towns.[citation needed]One of the largest malls in the U.S., Arundel Mills Mall, is located just four miles away, allowing for convenient shopping for Severn residents. A few U.S. government facilities, such as the National Security Agency and Fort Meade, are located on the edge of Severn.

What Makes Severn Unique?

  • Blue Angels Air Show Over The Severn River In Annapolis -  the Blue Angels flight demonstration exhibits the choreographed refinements of Navy-trained flying skills. The presentation includes four-plane, graceful, acrobatic maneuvers referred to as diamond maneuvers. All jets perform maneuvers together in the well-known delta formation. For decades, the Blue Angels have performed for thousands of spectators during Commissioning Week.    
  • Severn Teackle Wallis -  (1816-94) was an American lawyer, born in Baltimore, Md. He graduated from St. Mary's College in 1832 and was admitted to the bar in 1837.In 1849 he was sent to Spain by the United States government to investigate the titles to certain public lands in Florida. In 1861 he was elected to the Maryland Legislature, where, as leader of the faction opposed to the Civil War, he incurred the displeasure of the Federal authorities and was arrested and imprisoned. He was released from prison in 1862. In 1870, he was chosen provost of the University of Maryland. A statue in his likeness stands in Mount Vernon Square in Baltimore, Maryland.
